Electricity Transmission Network

AusNet Services owns and operates Victoria’s electricity transmission network. We also own and operate separate electricity and gas distribution networks in Victoria.

The transmission network covers approximately 227,600 square kilometres and serves over 5.9 million people. That's more than 2.1 million Victorian households and businesses.

The Victorian network is central to Australia’s eastern states. It provides important connections between South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania.

Energy Supply Chain

AusNet Services is a regulated business. We are required to lodge a Revenue Proposal with the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). The proposal sets out revenue and investment plans for a five-year regulatory period.

The process for setting revenue is called the Transmission Revenue Reset (TRR). The next regulatory period runs from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2027.

Customer Advisory Panel

AusNet Services established a TRR Customer Advisory Panel to work with the business. This ensures the Revenue Proposal reflects customers’ views and preferences.

The Panel includes representatives from direct customers, consumer advocates, generators and other Victorian energy distributors.

Customer Engagement Program

AusNet Services is conducting other customer engagement activities, as well as the Customer Advisory Panel.

These include Briefing Sessions, Deep Dives, consultation with Customer Consultative Committee (CCC) and one-on-one interviews with stakeholders. These activities provide valuable insights into customer perspectives. This informs the business-as-usual operations and reset engagement with the Customer Advisory Panel.

Key engagement activities are shown on the timeline below.

Broader customer and stakeholder consultation

We are committed to meaningful and genuine engagement with customers and stakeholders. The document below provides a summary of our approach and activities. It outlines the actions we are planning to undertake.

2023-27 Transmission Revenue Reset - Customer Advisory Panel #7

Post-lodgement engagement

AusNet seeks to be transparent with our customers and stakeholders.

As part of our Revenue Proposal, we shared how COVID-19 may impact our plans. The business expects that some our plans will need to change in response to the impact of the pandemic. We predict that there will be changes to the proposed capital program. This will reflect new demand and wage growth forecasts due to COVID-19's impact on economic conditions.

We continue to engage with customers and stakeholders to understand the effects of the pandemic.

Stakeholder consultation is key to our approach to developing the Revised Revenue Proposal. That's why we are holding a series of Collaborative Workshops with customers and stakeholders. These workshops will address new information and developments.

Our aim is to ensure our Revised Revenue Proposal incorporates customer preferences. We'll continue to engage with our Transmission Revenue Reset Customer Advisory Panel as part of this process.
